Introduction

The Executive Committee is keen to attract new contributors to the membership of its committees. At the Annual General Meeting in June 2008, the members present voted unanimously to introduce a change in the Constitution to ensure that the Constitution provides a workable and democratic basis for the operation of the Council’s activities, and that membership is available to a wide range of people interested in resuscitation.

There are two categories of membership:   Full Membership and Associate Membership.

Full membership

Full members shall normally be medical practitioners registered with the GMC.

Application for full membership is open to registered medical practitioners with a demonstrable interest in the clinical practice of resuscitation, in resuscitation training or in resuscitation research.

Applicants for full membership must complete the full membership application form and submit this together with the first annual payment of £25. The Honorary Secretary and Director of the Council shall review all applications. All valid applications that meet the membership criteria will be ratified by the Executive Committee at their next meeting. The Executive Committee convenes three times a year and therefore payment for full membership is not processed until your application has been ratified.

Successful applicants will be sent confirmation of membership together with a standing order mandate form for future payment.

Associate membership

Application for associate membership is open to individuals who are professional healthcare providers with an interest in resuscitation. Others who are not professional healthcare providers but who have a specific interest in the practice of resuscitation, in resuscitation training, in drugs or equipment used in resuscitation or in resuscitation research may also apply.

Applicants for associate membership must complete the associate membership application form and submit this together with the first annual payment of £20. The Honorary Secretary and the Director of the Council will examine all applications on behalf of the Executive Committee and notify applicants whether or not they have met the criteria for associate membership. Successful applicants will be sent confirmation of membership together with a standing order mandate form for future payment.

Associate members who are registered healthcare providers and who have demonstrated exceptional ability in and commitment to resuscitation beyond that normally expected of their employment may apply for full membership (by completing and submitting a full membership application form) after a minimum period of one year as an associate member.

Associate members may attend and speak at Annual General Meetings, but shall not be eligible to vote at such meetings and shall not be eligible for election to the Executive Committee.

Further information

Membership is only offered on an individual basis and is not available to corporate bodies, companies or such groups. Membership does not imply any recognition of expertise and must not be used to imply such – for example by using membership as a qualification. It is not permitted to use membership of the Council or the Council’s logo on personal stationery or promotional material.

Currently there is no arrangement for new members to receive joint membership between the Resuscitation Council (UK) and ERC. Individuals wanting to join the ERC and receive the journal Resuscitation should contact the ERC (www.erc.edu).

Full and associate membership application forms should be sent to:
