David has been a member of the Executive Committee since 1998 and was Honorary Secretary 2003-2010, Vice Chairman 2010–2012, President 2012–2015 and Vice President 2015–2016. He has contributed to serial revisions of guidelines and Advanced Life Support (ALS) course materials and to writing and editing several of the RC (UK)'s publications including the ALS course manual. He has been the RC (UK)’s lead on Decisions relating to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, has helped to develop serial editions of the national guidance on this (from the BMA, RC (UK) and RCN), and was co-chair of the ReSPECT Project Working Group 2015–2017. His clinical role has been as a cardiologist with an interest in cardiac arrhythmia, sudden death, inherited cardiac conditions and end-of-life care in cardiology. He retired from clinical practice in 2015.
