Tony Handley has been a member of the RC (UK) since 1990 and is now an Honorary Member. He has held several posts, including those of Honorary Secretary and Chairman of the Council, Chair of the BLS/AED Subcommittee, and Company Secretary of the Trading Company. He edited the first RC (UK) ALS manual and has co-authored the BLS/AED guidelines since their first publication. Tony chaired the BLS Working Group of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) from its foundation, and continued to be involved in the ILCOR guideline process until 2015. He is an Honorary Member and Fellow of the European Resuscitation Committee (ERC), and currently a Board Director and Treasurer. Before he retired, Tony was a consultant cardiologist at Colchester General Hospital. Apart from basic life support, his main interests in resuscitation include prevention and management of drowning, and in-flight cardiac arrest.
