Mick Colquhoun became a member of the Executive Committee in 1990. He founded the Research and Development Subcommittee in 1994 and chaired this until 2004. He was the BLS/AED Subcommittee Chair from 2011 to 2017. His main focus has been resuscitation by general practitioners and resuscitation in the community. He has written numerous papers and articles in the field of resuscitation medicine including editing three editions of the ABC of resuscitation (BMJ Books). Mick founded the first Heartstart group to train the lay public in BLS, a strategy subsequently widely promoted by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), and has advised the BHF and Department of Health (DH) about resuscitation and the deployment of AEDs in public places. He chaired the defibrillator advisory committee that implemented the ‘Defibrillators in Public Places’ programme for the DH. He conceived the idea of the RC (UK) ALS course and played a key role in establishing it.
