Restart A Heart Day

Restart A Heart Day 2018
Restart a Heart is a designated yearly day of action with the aim to teach vital life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills to as many people as possible.

This year, Restart a Heart is going global! For the first time, it will be called World Restart a Heart under the oversight of ILCOR – with support from resuscitation councils covering America (North, Central and South), Canada, South Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, as well as Europe. Once again, it will take place on 16 October, although events will occur on and around that date.
In 2017 we brought young people together up and down the country to learn how to save lives. Restart a Heart Day 2017 saw us partner once again with the British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross, St John Ambulance and all of UK ambulance services to train a minimum of an incredible 195,000 young people in life saving CPR. We also encouraged private first aid training providers and Fire & Rescue to get involved and host events. See what we did in more detail.

This year, we aim to train over 200,000 people!
In order to ensure we’ve got the numbers for all people trained, we are asking those of you who plan to host training outside of that planned by an ambulance service to inform us by filling in a short survey  with the planned numbers from your event.

Here's how you can get involved

We are encouraging all schools who want to take part in World Restart a Heart to first contact your NHS ambulance service. You can find your local service on our map, and then obtain their contact details below.
You may also host your own event independently from the emergency services. If you are running an independent event, please fill out our short survey to let us know about your plans.

Independent training providers

We’d love for any CPR training provider to get involved with Restart a Heart. We have a guide which will help you. We’d  like to ensure your activity is recorded and your numbers are part of the final total, so please do fill out the short survey about your plans.

Community groups, sports clubs and workplaces

There’s no restriction on the activity you want to do for Restart a Heart, as long as you are training people in CPR. You can organise your own event at a place and time that suits you in the week leading up to and week after 16 October 2018. Let us know what you’ve got planned and when in our short survey to ensure your numbers count.

Want to help out, but don’t know of any events in your area? Contact your local NHS ambulance service below  to see if there are any CPR training sessions near you that need volunteers.
