Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) is pleased to announce the launch of the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium UK (ROC-UK). A new national initiative designed to strengthen research collaboration, accelerate innovation, and improve survival and recovery for people who experience a cardiac arrest.

In April 2022, Richard Moore was taking on the Blackpool Marathon for the second time, determined to beat his previous best and finish in under four hours. For most of the race, everything was going exactly to plan. But just 400 metres from the finish line, he experienced a cardiac arrest and collapsed.

You never expect your world to change in a single moment - but at 02:30 on the morning of Sunday 27 July, theirs did. Bernie woke to find her baby gasping for air. She shook her partner awake in panic, telling him that “Leo wasn’t breathing properly”, and within seconds he turned blue and stopped breathing in their arms. 

Resuscitation Council UK in partnership with Save a Life Cymru, has published a new discharge resource to support people recovering from cardiac arrest, along with their families and friends.

Professor Gavin Perkins MBE, President of the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK), has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA). 

This refreshed resource supports national efforts to improve access to defibrillators and provides practical guidance for anyone responsible for a device in their community. It has been designed to help individuals, communities, and organisations ensure that their device is installed, maintained, and emergency rescue ready. 

Resuscitation Council UK has released the 2025 Resuscitation Guidelines, setting out the latest evidence-informed best practice for resuscitation and emergency care across all ages and care settings in the UK.

Seventeen-year-old Ollie was preparing for his A Levels when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at his home on 15 May 2025. Earlier that day, Ollie had been sent home from sixth form after feeling unwell. 

Resuscitation Council UK has teamed up with former Royal Marine and Invictus Games athlete Mark Ormrod MBE to get more people across the UK learning the simple steps of CPR. Not just chest compressions, but the many other vital actions that can help keep someone alive until emergency services arrive.
