Healthcare professionals across the UK are benefiting from a specialist training programme designed to improve care for newborns in out-of-hospital settings. The Out-of-Hospital Newborn Life Support (OH-NLS) course, developed by Resuscitation Council UK, equips clinicians with the skills needed to manage births in environments such as homes, ambulances and midwifery-led units.

A new bespoke Advanced Life Support course has been developed by Resuscitation Council UK to reflect the realities of managing cardiac arrest outside hospital.

Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) is delighted to invite applications from teams of healthcare professionals to represent the UK at the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) CPR Competition.

Resuscitation Council UK has launched a new report highlighting gaps in recovery support for people who survive a cardiac arrest. The Weakest Link: Recovery after cardiac arrest report examines variations in follow-up care after hospital discharge and calls for more consistent support for survivors across the UK.

MacLean MacLeod, from Forres in Morayshire, experienced a cardiac arrest in April 2022. Prior to this, he was fit and active, regularly taking part in competitive coastal rowing with the Findhorn Coastal Rowing Club. 

Josephine Wren’s daughter, Siobhan, experienced an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest at the age of 20 while studying abroad in Madison, Wisconsin. Previously fit and healthy, Siobhan collapsed suddenly while out shopping with university friends in the nearby city of Middleton. 

Ruth Harvey experienced an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in July 2021 at the age of 50. At the time, Ruth was active and busy with family life, supporting her children, studying horse care, and working part-time at a local equestrian centre. 

Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) has published a new practical guide to help everyone involved in grassroots sport recognise cardiac arrest and act fast to help save a life and support a full recovery.

ReSPECT (Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment) supports meaningful, person-centred conversations about future emergency care. Ensuring that people’s priorities, values and goals of care are understood and respected is essential when they may not be able to express what is important to them in an emergency.
