In 2024, students from Salendine Nook High School Academy took part in Restart a Heart - an annual worldwide CPR training initiative held every October. Now, the school is gearing up to give CPR knowledge to even more students.
With over 50 inflatable manikins already on site from a previous health initiative, the team planned CPR and defibrillator awareness sessions for year 8 pupils, many of whom were learning CPR for the first time. Parents were contacted in advance to identify any pupils who may need additional support, ensuring the training was safe and inclusive.
The session introduced the chain of survival and the role of defibrillators, and included a live demonstration followed by hands-on CPR practice. The session also addressed key issues, such as the lower likelihood of women receiving bystander CPR, encouraging pupils to challenge these misconceptions.
