The lifesaving difference registering your defibrillator on The Circuit could make.
There is no cost to register, and it takes as little as five minutes.
There are over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) every year in the UK, tragically less than 1 in 10 people survive.
When someone collapses and stops breathing normally, early CPR and defibrillation can double the chances of survival. Knowing where the nearest defibrillator is can make all the difference when every second counts.
However, if a defibrillator is not registered on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, ambulance service call handlers won’t know it exists when that 999 call is made. The opportunity to save a life could be missed.
Over 110,000 defibrillators are registered on The Circuit, however it is estimated that tens of thousands of defibrillators are not yet registered.
We need the help of those looking after defibrillators (defibrillator Guardians) to register their defibrillators on The Circuit. It could make a difference to someone and their loved ones.
Not sure if you are registered? Visit defibfinder.uk to find out.
The Circuit:
- will ensure that all ambulance call handlers are able to quickly direct people to their nearest defibrillator in an emergency, to enable defibrillation to start before the ambulance arrives.
- Provides defibrillator Guardians with reminders such as when pads are due to expire and to regularly check their defibrillator and update The Circuit, to provide ambulance services with confidence their defibrillators are ready to save a life.
We are proud to partner with the British Heart Foundation, who are leading on The Circuit along with fellow partners St John Ambulance, the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, NHS England, and Save a Life Cymru. These organisations are calling on people who currently look after a defibrillator - and those who purchase one in the future - to make sure they connect it to The Circuit.
