Arsenal FC has joined forces with Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) to call on fans and the wider public to learn CPR, a simple but critical skill that can help save a life during a cardiac arrest.
Launching on 25 October, a compelling new video featuring Arsenal players will be shared across the club’s and charity’s social media channels. The video urges viewers to take just a few minutes to learn CPR using RCUK’s free Lifesaver training tool, an interactive resource that guides people through the essential steps of CPR, using real-life scenarios.
Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Acting quickly is critical - Immediate CPR can double someone’s chances of survival. In the UK, fewer than 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, often because bystanders don’t feel confident to help.
To help change this, Arsenal is also taking the message straight to fans. The video will be shown just before kick-off, during player warm-ups, at two major home fixtures at the iconic Emirates Stadium:
• Arsenal Men’s vs Crystal Palace (Premier League), 26 October
• Arsenal Women’s vs Chelsea (Women’s Super League), 8 November
The matchday programme at both games will also feature CPR information from RCUK, showing fans how they can get involved and learn a skill that could one day help save a life.
Zafar Iqbal, Head of Sports Medicine and Performance at Arsenal FC, said: "Learning CPR is a simple yet powerful act that can save lives, and at Arsenal, we’re proud to support this vital message. Everyone should learn how to do CPR and we want all fans and the wider public to feel confident taking action in a cardiac emergency. Learning CPR takes just a few minutes and could help save someone’s life.”
James Cant, Chief Executive at Resuscitation Council UK, said: "We’re proud to be working with Arsenal FC to raise awareness of the power of CPR. Every second counts when someone’s in cardiac arrest. Members of the public need to feel confident to recognise cardiac arrest, call the emergency services, initiate CPR and use a defibrillator to save more lives. Our free Lifesaver training tool is a quick and interactive way to learn these crucial skills.”
