The Resuscitation Council UK is deeply saddened by the death of Professor Douglas Chamberlain CBE OStJ KSG, our esteemed patron and one of the founding members of the charity.
We would like to pay tribute to a visionary whose pioneering contributions brought paramedic science to Europe and transformed emergency medical care. He was instrumental in championing the introduction of paramedics and the use of early defibrillation—advances that have saved countless lives. He also played a central role in creating the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and helped establish the first public AED in the 1970s. His unwavering dedication to improving pre-hospital care leaves a profound legacy that continues to inspire generations of emergency medical professionals worldwide.
