National Cardiac Arrest Audit (NCAA) publishes ‘Public Report 2022-23’

Today the National Cardiac Arrest Audit (NCAA) launches its 'Public Report 2022-23'.

NCAA, created in 2009, is the national clinical audit of in-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK, and is a collaboration between the RCUK and the Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC).

Hospitals participating in the NCAA submit data for “any resuscitation event, commencing in-hospital, where an individual (excluding neonates) receives chest compression(s) and/or defibrillation and is attended by the hospital-based resuscitation team (or equivalent).” This is referred to as a “team visit”.

The NCAA team works with hospitals to ensure the entry of timely and accurate data. This is used to provide quarterly analysis reports to support local performance management and quality improvement.

James Cant, Chief Executive Resuscitation Council UK, said:

“This report provides valuable insight into the work undertaken by NHS in-hospital resuscitation teams across the United Kingdom and Ireland”.

“The NCAA exists to improve patient outcomes and save more lives in hospital settings. I strongly recommend all acute hospitals join the NCAA, so we can decrease incidence of avoidable cardiac arrests and focus our efforts, in terms of best practice resuscitation care, where the data leads us”.
