Resuscitation Council UK is pleased to share guidance to support those who care for children and young adults with a Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT) plan as they transition between care services.
For young people with palliative care needs who are approaching adulthood, the transition from the care of paediatric to adult services can be a time of great worry for them and their families.
This guidance, produced in conjunction with the Children and Young Person’s Advance Care Plan Collaborative, provides information on how previously agreed recommendations for care and treatment can be utilised during this transition between services.
The ReSPECT process was developed to allow patients and clinicians to create a summary of personalised recommendations for a person’s clinical care in a future emergency in which they do not have capacity to make or express choices.
ReSPECT is used across a wide range of care settings and can be used to share recommendations for people of all ages, including children and young adults.
