Healthcare professionals across the UK are benefiting from a specialist training programme designed to improve care for newborns in out-of-hospital settings.
The Out-of-Hospital Newborn Life Support (OH-NLS) course, developed by Resuscitation Council UK, equips clinicians with the skills needed to manage births in environments such as homes, ambulances and midwifery-led units.
Out-of-hospital births can be unpredictable, often requiring rapid decision-making in unfamiliar settings with limited equipment. OH-NLS helps address this challenge by filling a critical training gap - enhancing clinicians’ knowledge and practical application of the assessment and management of a newborn.
The programme promotes effective multidisciplinary working across ambulance and maternity services. It is already demonstrating improvements in clinician confidence and the quality of care delivered, helping to support safer outcomes for babies and families.
Healthcare professionals and trusts are encouraged to visit www.resus.org.uk to learn more and enroll on upcoming training.
