Professor Gavin Perkins MBE, President of the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK), has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA).
At the recent AHA meeting in New Orleans, Professor Perkins was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by senior international colleagues, acknowledging his efforts not only within the UK but across the global resuscitation community.
The ceremony highlighted his enduring commitment to improving survival from cardiac arrest, promoting high-quality CPR and supporting innovation in resuscitation training and research.
Professor Gavin Perkins MBE, said: “I am deeply honoured to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award. I owe this recognition to the many extraordinary colleagues, researchers, clinicians and patient and public partners around the world who have shared the journey with me. Together we have sought to improve outcomes for people who sustain cardiac arrest, and I remain passionate about continuing our efforts – because behind every statistic is a person, a family, a community.”
With a strong research focus on cardiac arrest, including leading the PARAMEDIC trials and OHCAO Registry, Professor Perkins is widely recognised for his contributions to resuscitation science. He also played a key role in the underpinning research which informed the development of the Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT) process.
In addition to his research leadership, Professor Perkins serves as Dean of Medicine at Warwick Medical School - University of Warwick, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, and Non-Executive Director at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
