Consultant Neonatologist

Dr Joe Fawke is a Consultant Neonatologist at University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust and Vice President of RCUK. He is an Executive Board Member and Chair of the RCUK Newborn subcommittee, which covers the NLS, NLSr, ARNI and OHNLS courses. He co-edits the NLS and ARNI manuals and teaching materials and is an active course director and instructor. He successfully led a funding bid to NHSE which supported the development of e-learning materials, a recertification NLS course and standardised NLS annual update training materials. Joe is an Emeritus member of the ILCOR NLS task force and a member of the ERC Science and Education committee. Other current roles are Head of the East Midlands School of Paediatrics, RCPCH Training and Quality Board member and clinical research lead for the Leicester Neonatal Service. He has previously been a member and a Chair of NICE clinical guideline committees.

Consultant Midwife

Camella Main is Consultant Midwife for East Midlands Ambulance Service and Lead Midwife for London Ambulance Service in the UK. She is a pre-hospital assessor for MBRRACE (Mothers and Babies Reducing Risk through Audit and Confidential Enquiries). She works clinically as a midwife at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. She has completed a Masters in Enhanced Midwifery Care and a post-graduate certificate in Neuro-behavioural Physical Assessment of the Newborn. She is on the UK-MED register as a humanitarian midwife. She was awarded the Chief Midwifery Officer Award for leading the group that developed and nationally scaled the Prehospital Maternity Decision Tool. She has co-authored a number of JRCALC and Resuscitation Council UK guidelines. She has previously worked in a range of clinical and leadership midwifery posts including fetal monitoring specialist, inpatient matron and midwifery practice leader for intrapartum care. She has worked in the UK, New Zealand, Tanzania, the Netherlands, Haiti, Venezuala and Jamaica in midwifery leadership and humanitarian roles. In her spare time, Camella plays netball, enjoys cooking, travelling and outdoor activities.

Neonatal Nurse and Educator

Elizabeth qualified as a Children's Nurse in 1993. The majority of her working life has been working in NICU, but includes paediatrics, time as a research nurse, and as a Practice Development Sister. She has witnessed changes and growth in the care of preterm and sick neonates during the last 30+ years. Elizabeth has always enjoyed mentoring and teaching, finding this a key way to maintain up to date knowledge. She was delighted to become an NLS and an ARNI instructor, to be able to share the knowledge and experiences she has, and also to learn from others. She now also teaches resuscitation skills and neonatal nurse education in Vietnam. As a Newborn subcommittee member, she finds it valuable to be able to share experiences and opinions for nurses in the development of RCUK courses.

Consultant Neonatologist

Hannah is a Consultant Neonatologist in Leeds who has been involved in the teaching and directing of the NLS course for over 20 years. She established Leeds as an ARNI course centre and has supported other places in doing the same. Hannah is also involved in the delivery of OH-NLS in Yorkshire and teaches GIC in both the UK and more recently Vietnam.

Consultant Neonatologist

Jonathan is an experienced neonatologist and educator. He works for University Hospitals of Leicester and is currently Clinical Director for Womens and Childrens services. He was involved in the establishment of the ARNI course and has extensive experience teaching NLS and ARNI. He has worked with the ERC on the Science and Education Committee and is a named author of the 2025 Newborn Life Support Guidelines. 

Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician with expertise in cardiology

Having gone on the first Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) course, Jonathan joined the International APLS working group and helped introduce APLS to New Zealand. Applying what he learnt to the Northern Regional Newborn Resuscitation Course, Jonathan, alongside Sam Richmond, developed what became the RCUK NLS course which is now standardised across the UK, much of Europe and Vietnam. In 1998, Jonathan joined the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) Newborn Life Support working party which formed the NLS course launching in 2000. He travelled the country helping to set up courses and support local faculties also developing the Generic Instructor Course Newborn Components. He was chair of the Newborn Committee and remains a member. Jonathan also became the Chair of the ERC Newborn Committee for a time, and was elected President of RCUK in 2017-2021. Completely honoured to be the first paediatrician/neonatologist President, but difficult through the pandemic (as for everyone). He worked for the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) from 1998-2023 and has authored many papers on resuscitation and guidelines for resuscitation.

Neonatologist

Dr Rob Tinnion is a Consultant Neonatologist in a medical/surgical neonatal intensive care unit in the North of England, and has been part of RCUK's Newborn subcommittee for 15 years. He has an interest in how the principles and evidence base of newborn stabilisation and resuscitation can be applied to out-of-hospital practice for both midwives and ambulance clinicians. Within the Newborn subcommittee he is the OH-NLS lead. Rob also sits on the ReSPECT subcommittee to support the group's work with input around planned palliative and end of life care from a newborn perspective. Rob is an NLS, ARNI and OH-NLS Course Director/Instructor, and teaches on GIC. In his clinical role, he is also the medical lead for the Northern Neonatal Transport Service.

Neonatal subspecialty trainee and academic clinical lecturer 

Dr T’ng Chang Kwok is a neonatal subspecialty trainee in the East Midlands and an academic clinical lecturer at the University of Nottingham. He has been a member of the NLS and ARNI Subcommittee since 2020 and was part of the editorial group for NLS and ARNI 2021 and 2025 manuals. He is an NLS Instructor and Course Director who is passionate about newborn resuscitation. He is also passionate about using healthcare data to improve outcome of newborn infants.

Dr Vix Monnelly works as a Consultant Neonatologist in a regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Vix has been a member of the NLS Subcommittee since 2015, and the ARNI Subcommittee since 2017. An experienced NLS and ARNI Instructor, Vix co-authored the NLS 2015 and 2021 guidelines and was part of the editorial group for NLS and ARNI manuals. One of Vix’s interests is increasing inclusivity through social media. She is part of the ILCOR (International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation) Social Media working group. Vix is also passionate about reducing health inequalities, as she manages the consequences of these in her day to day work.
